...as IMSU student, Winnie Nwadinigwe emerges winner
In an effort to better engage customers and give back to society as well as create increased awareness for its brand, Travelstart, Nigeria’s fastest growing Online Travel Agency (OTA) has organised a photo contest tagged: “Selfie In the City,” using facebook and other social media platforms.
Speaking at an award presentation ceremony, the company’s Country Manager, Mrs. Lillian Obinna-Igwe, said; “the contest was developed as a strategy to reach out to fans via social media platforms as well as customers by uploading content on its home page and engaging them through social media networks which they can easily access from their smart phones.” She noted further that the contest was also geared towards promoting culture and tourism in Nigeria while simultaneously giving a wider visibility to the brand.
“The idea behind this competition was to create a platform for Nigerians to whip out their smartphones, strike a pose in a specific destination in any Nigerian city and upload their “Selfie” photos on our website for a chance to win great prizes such as return tickets to Nairobi sponsored by Kenya Airways,” Obinna-Igwe said.
The ‘Selfie In The City” competition started on the 4th of September and ended on the 26th of September, 2014. It was a travel photography contest that attracted submissions of hundreds of photos, revealing interesting places in different parts of Nigeria.
At the end of the competition, Miss Chidinma Winifred Nwadinigwe, a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from Imo State University emerged winner with her entry having 936 votes. She went home with a goody bag full of various gifts courtesy of Travelstart and an award of Two (2) Economy Class Tickets to Nairobi sponsored by Kenya Airways.
Making the presentation of the tickets, Mr. Clement Okoedoh, a Sales Executive with Kenya Airways said: “This is a partnership between two big names in African Aviation; Travelstart and Kenya Airways. Our coming together to make this contest possible is more of a synergy between two big brands,” adding that, “We like to partner with our allies who are reputable and Travelstart is one of them.”
He therefore called on Chidinma to be an ambassador both for Travelstart and Kenya Airways among her friends and as she goes about her daily life.
Chidinma thanked Travelstart and Kenya Airways for the award and promised to be a worthy ambassador.
“I am glad to be here and glad to have won. I never thought I would win because the contest was very competitive. I have been dreaming of visiting an African country and through this award it will be a dream fulfilled,” she said with excitement.
Chidinma’s entry was a selfie in the city of Victoria Island in Lagos with a view of the ocean in the background depicting the beauty of nature and creativity in the city.
Travelstart began operations in Nigeria in 2012 and has grown by leaps and bounds as one of the fastest growing OTAs in the country with a current market share of about 40% – 50% and passenger traffic which grew by about 60% in the 2013/2014 fiscal year.
