Asoluka lauds Jonathan over declaration of presidential bid

A Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) frontline senatorial aspirant for Imo East(Owerri) senatorial district, Dr Chris Asoluka has congratulated President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on his successful formal declaration to seek re-election in next year's presidential poll.

Asoluka who bared his mind while speaking to newsmen yesterday in Owerri described the event as epoch-making because of the massive support President Jonathan's second term bid received nationwide and beyond; before, during and after the declaration.

According to him, the formal declaration made by Mr President last week confirms his acceptance of the consensus presidential ticket offered him by the PDP and other well meaning Nigerians who believe in his transformation agenda.

He stated that President Jonathan by the declaration to run for a second term based on popular demand has once again proved himself as humble and listening leader whose primary interest is to hearken to the yearnings of the people.

Commenting on the decision of some PDP members who picked nomination forms to challenge Jonathan in the forthcoming presidential primary, the party chieftain said they were only exercising their fundamental rights as citizens under a democracy.

"With President Jonathan's declaration, I can tell you that PDP has gone half the mile in the race for 2015. I personally have no doubt he would win the election for our great party," he said.
While commending the PDP national leadership for the vision in endorsing the President for second term, he advised other party members nursing presidential ambition for next year to avoid actions and utterances capable of heating the polity.

On his senatorial ambition, Dr Asoluka declared that he wants to use the Senate as a higher platform to continue his service to the people of Owerri Zone, Imo State and the nation at large.
He therefore appealed to the Imo PDP leadership and delegates from the 9 LGAs of Owerri zone to offer him the opportunity to fly the party's flag in the 2015 senatorial election assuring he would clinch victory for the party.

"You see, it is one thing to get the ticket of a party and entirely another thing to win the election proper. In Imo, we have a great task in our hands come 2015. The task is dislodging the APC in the state. We can only achieve that goal by fielding candidates with the winning capacity and capability to open up empowerment opportunities," Asoluka submitted.
